merge dive data with android import

Post by racerx_ »

i had dives in the desktop version that i imported from oceanlog. i also had created all those dives separately on my android device, with more details in it. when i synced, however it just created new dives and didn't recognize them as the same dives (i'm guessing if the program cross referenced the date/time of the dives it would clear this problem up). So the issue is, those dives from oceanlog have dive profile data in them. is there any way to merge that back in to the dive entries in DL that were imported from the android device? (there was complete info keyed in on the android. only the profile on the oceanlog software.. which is why i want to merge them)

Hi

Yes, that should be possible. First, create a new, empty desktop logbook and sync your Android dives into that. Then import from Oceanlog and in the last step, select "Update existing dives". Make sure the number and order of the dives match. So if you gonna import 20 dives from Oceanlog, those 20 dives must exist in the desktop logbook in the same order.

Then sync the merged logbook to your phone. The next time you import from your phone, the dives will be updated. Each dive has a unique ID on both devices when the logbooks are in sync.

Kind regards,
Sven

awesome thank you!

I also seem to have a problem using downloaded logbook template files. i downloaded from the site, unzipped them and put the xml files in the templates folder under my documents. I can see them in the DL program, but if i try to select one it gives an error that says "object reference not set to an instance of an object". any clues on this?

You've downloaded probably "Layout Files" for the logbook layout. These are stored in the "Layout" folder. The template folder is for the template function in Diving Log (menu Logbook > Template Manager). The layout files have to be opened within the layout tab in the logbook toolbar. Templates have to be created by yourself.
